For decades, civic delegations from around the country have been traveling to Chattanooga to learn about our city's remarkable renaissance.
Betim, Brazil
Even a brief visit to cities in Brazil can be jolting for people like us at KCRW whose work has centered on American cities. In the world's fifth most populous nation with it's third largest city (Sao Paolo), Brazilian cities are setting the pace for change never experienced in the U.S. And with significant untapped natural and human resources on hand there's little urgency for them to take stock of the potential legacy of that change.
Planning plus Leadership equals Implementation
I know of a CEO at a Fortune 400 Company who became weary of planning exercises and so decided to re-name his company's Strategic Planning Committee to the Strategic Doing Committee. On one hand, you have to wonder exactly what they would be doing, having no plan. But, at the same time, you have to sympathize with the attitude that planning isn't worth much if it doesn't lead to some doing.
