Just days apart of one another, two of the four Principals at Kennedy, Coulter, Rushing & Watson are being recognized for their excellence in design. Congratulations to the Rushing and the Watson! Christian Rushing’s design for the recent Jefferson Heights Park Pavilion Design Competition was selected by green|spaces for this prominent public park in Chattanooga’s only community in the LEED Neighborhood Development Pilot Program. Continuing his practice of pushing the envelope of green design locally, Christian incorporated rainwater harvesting and composting toilets in the project and will be using 100% of existing building materials on the site in the construction. And since Christian’s award winning platinum-certified LEED townhomes, Madison Street, are across the street from the park, we won’t have to hear him complain about seeing a pavilion designed by someone else when he walks out his front door each day. Stroud Watson is being named the only Professor Emeritus at the University of Tennessee School of Architecture in Knoxville, where he taught architecture and urban design for almost 20 years, training and inspiring an entire generation of architects and urban designers, and leaving his mark on the urban public realm for generations to come. He is still our teacher, adding unique insights and value to our work on waterfronts, urban neighborhoods, parks and streets and downtowns. And unlike, the University of Tennessee, we know better than to let him actually retire! Jim and I still don’t have any awards, but the way Christian and Stroud are going, at least we can have a great team batting average!
