Christian Rushing was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama where he graduated from the Carver Creative and Performing Arts Center. He received a scholarship to attend the University of New Mexico where he received a Bachelor of Environmental Design degree from the School of Architecture and Planning in 1996. That same year he returned to Alabama to attend Auburn University. While at Auburn he served as a graduate research and teaching assistant and earned his Masters degree in Community Planning from the College of Architecture and Design 1998.

In 1999 he accepted a position with the Regional Planning Agency in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In his position as planner and later, senior planner, Christian was responsible for producing a comprehensive plan for the neighboring city of Soddy-Daisy, and he worked on numerous planning efforts including neighborhood, open space, transportation, land use, and urban growth plans. He was also responsible for the conceptual design of several civic projects including streetscapes and public parks.

In 2001 he moved across the city to accept a position with the Downtown Planning & Design Studio. In his capacity as senior planner, he maintained a focus on the conditions of urbanism which produce great downtowns. His work has included the award winning 2005 Chattanooga Downtown Plan, numerous urban design and planning studies, design consultation with downtown developers, and presentations to elected officials and the public.

In 2005 Christian left the Design Studio to become a principal with Kenndy, Coulter, Rushing & Watson. Since that time Christian has played prominent roles in projects ranging from public input facilitation to public space design to graphic design to consultation on green building practices.

Christian is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and a LEED accreddited professional.
